Ok TIME- What the hell kind of US Map is this?

Tennessee is not an asymmetrical parallelogram. The states were all drawn with rulers, except those up in the north east bordering the great lakes. Who approved this art direction?

I was reading EW and came across this small feature about Sleeveface.com. They describe themselves as such- "one or more persons obscuring or augmenting any part of their body or bodies with record sleeve(s) causing an illusion."
