Well, we graduated from UF (The University of Florida) in 2008 (most of us, at least). After leaving the halls (or atrium) of Weimer Hall, we're off to work in advertising, all across the country! What we're up to, and what we're in to - you'll find it here! Check often to find out about the Wizards of Weimer!

15 minutes: The Aretha Hat

So I'm starting a new segment to the blog called 15 minutes (maybe I'll turn it into a blog) beacuase I <3 Andy Warhol. It's about people/places/trends and whatnot having their 15 minutes of fame. Today's will be about Aretha Franklin's felt hat with the Swarovski rhinestone-bordered bow that she wore to Obama's Inauguration on Tuesday.

Created by Luke Song's Detroit hat shop, this one of a kind gem is not available for sale. while it would cost upwards of $500 (!), the shop is not going to produce the hat for the mainstream.

So instead, the wise, witty and smart-alecy internet population has taken it upon themselves to distribute the hat to the masses.

First there was Ellen:

Oops, how'd this get here?!?

Only the issues

Created by creative director - Tor Myhren from Grey NYC, the posters slice through the race issue between candidates - acknowledging that much of this campaign has predictably but stupidly been re-cast as a battle between black and white. Myhren's powerful imagery rightly implies that this is all just distraction, seeking to refocus our attention onto what really matters - the issues.

Even before the results are in, the posters have become collectors items, with New Yorkers unable to help themselves from swiping them off the streets.

Mudslinging + Hot, Trashy Girls = ...Politics?

Yeah, I thought it would be something a lot more fun, too. But then again, political advertising CAN be fun. As a former polisci major, and someone who did his project on political advertising in his advertising ethics class, political ads have always interested me. Most aren't fun, but I wanted to show that they can be.

I haven't made up my mind yet for the president (there's still some debates and such this fall, not to mention nastier and nastier advertising campaigns full of mudslinging), but I wanted to share this video. If she won, I think she might put up a decent fight against Merkel or even Thatcher for best looking president/prime minister, though Thatcher would clearly take the cake on trashiest.

This ran earlier this year, before he got 0% of the vote. Yes, this is real.
