Well, we graduated from UF (The University of Florida) in 2008 (most of us, at least). After leaving the halls (or atrium) of Weimer Hall, we're off to work in advertising, all across the country! Red Bull Snowscrapers

An awesome event coming to NYC!!

Red Bull is sponsoring a snowboarding event called Red Bull Snowscrapers on Thursday February 5th at 6:00 at the East River Park (FDR and Houston). The event will feature 16 of the world's best snowboards (including Shaun White, Pat Moore, and Travis Rice) competing for $100,000. "Red Bull will create a towering 90-foot tall, state-of-the-art structure for top riders to own the iconic Manhattan skyline. The athletes will drop in from a nine-story structure before flying off the specially constructed kicker toward an immense 80-foot long hip. The innovative hip, built by world-renowned designers Frank Wells and Mike Bettera of Snow Park Technology, allows riders multiple angles of trajectory— frontside or backside, landing on either the right or left side of the massive 45-degree spine. Additionally, the ramp design will allow spectators to get up close and personal, giving fans an opportunity to experience the action first hand as the riders spin roughly four stories into the sky." (from snowboarding.transworld.net)

Check out the site: http://redbullsnowboarding.com/snowscrapers/ and the facebook event.

Also, on Saturday February 7th, New York Parks and Recreation will host Winter Jam with tons of cool events (70-foot long snow flume for sledding and a snowman making contest amongst others!) at East River Park.

Haven't been hiding, I swear!

Haven't posted in awhile, being that I've been quite busy or had nothing worth saying (it's debatable if I ever have ANYTHING worth saying). That being said, thought I'd upload a couple fun pictures you guys might enjoy from my weekend exploits with family. Gator fans and copyranter fans, enjoy!

Life and Politics

Well, it seems as though, I am slowly but surely joining the rest of you in the real world. Being the only Wizard without a job is kind of depressing. Don't get me wrong, it rocks to be at home, mom cooks or we go out to eat, I can go out whenever and come back whenever, play with my dogs, hang out with people and whatnot, but what I want is to work (becoming an adult, hah!). I'm so excited to be a part of the advertising world instead of looking in from the outside.

Okay enough of that....

So I got an apartment on Roosevelt Island, which lies between Manhattan and Queens (map). The complex is 4 high rise buildings, each with roof top deck, gym, doorman, and laundry in the building. It's kind of absurd. I move in the 1st and start work on the 4th.

So my job will be at PHD as an Interactive Assistant Media Planner on the Siemens and AIG accounts. The head on the Interactive team is from Florida (Jax) and her sister is a Gator! I still can't get over how many people I met in the city from Florida, one of the Realtors I talked to, people at PHD, guys at bars (Sarah!), etc.

On to politics.

We all know that whoever has the most popularity tends to win elections/ contests/ awards/ etc. (See www.c-k.com [Sorry Lauren] or even P&G/ BBDO's takeover at Cannes)

Anyway what I'm getting at is this great comic strip turn political call to action I found created by Sean Tevis, an Informational Architect in Kansas running for State Representative.

This is his story.

He's just about got what he needs to get his campaign going, a great example of grassroots, word of mouth viral campaign that has swept the Internet as he has garnered over 2,800 donors, although I am not sure when exactly it launched.

And I'll leave you with this...

Start spreading the word...

Oh my lovely Wizards...how I have missed thee! And, may I say that I feel honored to be an invited member of this blog. :)

I feel like I have a lot to say, but I need to start with this: I literally spent at about 30 minutes (maybe more) trying to figure out how to post a friggin' post! Seriously. I think I might be technologically ignorant, which will probably do me no good for the future....but that is neither here nor there...

What is here (New York that is) is ME! But, despite the excited and capitalized "ME!", this is not an exciting trip. I'm looking for a place to live...alone...broke...in New friggin York City. Talk about impossible. And, guess what? I have to find somewhere by Wednesday because I am leaving on Thursday morning and have to move for good next week. So, needless to say my excitement for my new job is being masked by the fact that I a m homeless and if/when I find a place to live, it will undoubtedly be super small and creepy (side note: while my search is been short, as I got to the city today, I have one word for the apartments I have seen so far: creepy. It's honestly the only word I can find to describe them. We all know that apartment here are super tiny and relatively gross, but I never suspected creepy would be the word I used to describe them....happy searching tomorrow.)

But, on a lighter note...I got a JOB!!!!!!! Most of you know this, but some of you may not and whatever, it's freakin' awesome! I'm working for Euro RSCG Life Chelsea (B2B healthcare, e.g. we advertise to doctors primarily). I'm the President's executive assistant, which is pretty cool. I start July 7, which is 2 weeks from today...so you can see the excitement/terror ahead of me.

Well, I guess enough rambling for now...I'll let you all know how the apartment search is going and then eventually how my first day/week of work went.

seriously and intensely sincere, skb

War on Terror (and Photography)

Haha ok, funny story. Yesterday I'm walking home from the subway (bus was taking forever due to contstruction, fire trucks, ambulances, and who knows what else) and I come across a street that I feel like taking a picture of about a block from home. It's a gorgeous day, and the mix of the green trees and blue sky and sun on the side of a building is picture worthy. I want to send it to my parents because I'm sure when I tell them I'm living in Manhattan they would never expect an area like this. Well I try taking the picture a couple times, but I can't get the color right so that it picks up the sky. I'll upload the pictures, but they don't do the scene justice.

After a few tries, I get a tap on the shoulder. I turn around, expecting it to be Corwin, who I knew was out and about as well, and could very easily have been on his way back from the subway. Nope, it's a cop. Asks me what I'm doing, what I'm taking pictures of. I tell him I just moved here, I live around the block, and I'm taking pictures of the area to show my parents back home. He asks for my ID and all that fun stuff, goes and calls it in.

Ok, so, apparently, and he told me after I checked out to be ok, the spot I'm taking pictures of is a high profile terror target. An Israeli diplomat lives in this one building. They wanted to make sure I'm not planning anything because I looked kinda suspicious lol. I can't fault them for doing their jobs. I was just amused by it all, and wish I could have gotten a better picture. I didn't really feel like trying to take any more.

After writing down that he had talked to me about it and taking down my info (he had to say who he talked to since he called it in), I was on my way home, with him wishing me good luck in the city with my new job and hoping I don't hate the cold being that I'm from Florida. I just hope I can actually make it home for the holidays and don't end up on some terrorism watch list and no-fly list and stuff. Lol a terrorist with the last name Solomon. Ha!

Is Bud Light Rick Rolling?

I was on a subway ride sponsored by bud light today, and i noticed something about the copy. I think they took a page out of Rick Astley's book. Two of the lines of copy are as follows: Never fills you up. Never slows you down. I can see the new parody in the making: Never gonna fill you up, never gonna slow you down, never gonna turn around and...(i dunno what to put...).

Anyway, I can't find any pics of it online, so I'm gonna try and take some myself if I come across those ads again. Damn I need a camera on my phone. Maybe I'll just tape one to it.

UPDATE: I came across them in the subway on the way to Brooklyn with Liz a week ago and had my camera on me. I'm sure everyone thought I was crazy taking these pics. Oh well. I lost my SD card, but had them stored on the camera's internal memory. I just got access to another SD card, which is why they're just now making it up. Anyway, here they are, in all their glory.
